Stop Killer Robots: No Machine Can Decide to Kill

Via Lattea APS is running “Stop Killer Robots: No Machine Can Decide to Kill” inside Rome Future Week 2026 (21–27 September), Italy’s largest innovation festival, at its bookstore and Edicola Artivista inside the former slaughterhouse in Testaccio.

The event brings the autonomous weapons debate out of diplomatic rooms and into the city. On stage: a representative of the international Stop Killer Robots campaign; Amnesty International, among the promoters of the global call for a new international law on autonomy in weapons systems; Francesco Vignarca, Campaigns Coordinator at the Italian Peace and Disarmament Network (Rete Italiana Pace e Disarmo); Jenna Jauhiainen for Via Lattea; and sculptor Davide Dormino, bringing the perspective of art to a question that goes to the heart of our relationship with machines.

The timing is deliberate: in November 2026 the CCW Seventh Review Conference in Geneva will ask states whether to open negotiations towards a treaty. The event covers where the process stands, what is at stake, and how citizens, institutions and civil society can shape the outcome, closing with the international petition to sign for a world where no machine can decide to kill.

The grant funds what makes this more than a panel: an 11x2m banner that will remain on site for several months after the festival, two information totems (AI safety / Stop Killer Robots), printed materials, and a small informational buffet for attendees and speakers.
